Today I briefly reviewed the basic/bronze sss articles just to make sure that all the concepts were fresh in my mind before I attempted any play. I focussed on knowing in which places I should push my hand and in which spots I should rather fold. I believe that this is on of my major leaks when it comes to poker as a lot of the time I push, I found myself being called by a better hand.
After my education session I decided it was time for a poker session on pokerstars. It was still early in the day so the traffic on party is usually too low to play a decent session. I decided to warm up with 6 tables and then progress to 9 tables as I got into the groove.
The first problem I encountered is that I didn’t have any hands on my opponents. This would mean that I wouldn’t be able to rely on stats for important decisions. However this wasn’t really a problem at all – the tables were filled with donks! This is one of the reasons I love playing at pokerstars: large amount of players and therefore large amount of fish. Plus there are hardly any SSS players at NL10.
The session went reasonably well and I only made to real mistakes which cost me two buy-ins. This is poker and mistakes will be made; it is how you learn from those mistakes that matter. I ended up playing 544 hands and lost $2.85 which was mostly due to a lack of good hands to play and naturally those two mistakes I mentioned.
Speaking of which, this is one of those particular hands:

MP1 shows a full-house, queens full of aces (As Qc)
MP1 wins with a full-house, queens full of aces (As Qc)
Because my stack was so small ($1.60) I should’ve pushed this hand preflop since my c-bet on the flop would’ve been more than half my stack (and I would have to push anyways). Pushing preflop would’ve given my extra fold equity.
When raising out of position (i.e. from the blinds), you’re often forced into pushing your stack as a c-bet. Therefore it’s better to push the hand before the flop so as to not give your opponents a “free flop”.
