10th July - turn around

1oth July 2009

Another day, another session hey? Well this one certainly went much better than yesterday’s. This time I actually made some money! Yes the first money of the blog!!
I started the session with the same goals as the previous day: focus on making correct all-in decisions and maintaining concentration throughout. It was an average day on pokerstars – filled to the brim with fish who’ll call you with almost anything from average pairs to flush draws. The sort of climate suits the SSS player perfectly. I made very few mistakes and played superbly solid poker, which at the end of the day stays the main objective.

That said, the session didn’t start off too well at all. After the first 400 hands I was down almost $6 and this was largely due to several bad beats I had received. Obviously being down 3 stacks in short succession is highly unsettling and therefore I briefly stepped away from the poker tables in order to avoid going on tilt.
After the short break I was ready to take on the poker world again. Well taking the break certainly helped as I was back to winning ways and quickly dissipated my deficit. As they say: it was a game of two halves and I ended the day with a positive $6! Here’s a graph to illustrate what I was on about:

Honestly there weren’t that many interesting hands but I did manage to find one:

Final Pot: $0.50

Results follow (highlight to see):
Hero shows a pair of nines (9c 9s)

Hero wins with a pair of nines (9c 9s)

Here is an example of a play you have to make when you’re sitting in the blinds. The reason I push directly instead of simply raising to $0.6 is that I’m OOP (out of position) after the flop. This means I have to act first after the flop. If I just raised this hand I would have to be all-in after the flop in any case, as the continuation bet would be more than half of my remaining stack. So instead I opt to push directly hoping to just win the blinds without any confrontation.

Don't you just love these kind of hands where the donk hits top-pair, but then you also hit you set?

Well I must apologize for posting this update so late. See the thing is the second semester of my studies has commenced and therefore kept me slightly busier than usual. Of course I’m still playing poker regularly however updating the blog also takes a bit of time.

Well I’ll see you next time, cheers.
